Unknown flower covering hillsides

The hills are alive with these flowers. They've just bloomed in the past week. I'm hoping TOG from Coral Gables, FL will let us know what they are.

The only thing I could think of was a species of Camellia. Camellia azalea (not a regular azalea) is as close to your flower that I could find. I can tell you that I haven't seen it in the southeast of the USA. Sorry but I'm stumped. I do know that it is more then a pretty pink flower.
