Is the wood scrap pieces from some factory that makes things out of wood? The reason I asked is that the pieces are so uniform in size that I assumed they are cut off pieces that people can collect for firewood.

The pieces are cut to the uniform size so that they can fit into whatever kind of stove their using. Some are branches, others might be scrap, but most are found wood. They have to be split and dried because they're probably cut green and it's too damp here for them to ever just cure out in a season. They'd mold and rot first.
